Raptors Prepare for Second Home Game of Season, Look to Continue Winning Streak

Look to Continue Winning Streak

The Glendale Raptors will host San Diego Legion at Infinity Park this Sunday, looking to extend their winning streak in an evening match up on Mother’s Day. Pitting the top two teams in the league against one another, the game, which kicks off at 6pm Mountain Time, promises not to disappoint. Glendale currently sits atop the MLR standings, sporting the only unblemished record in the league, as well as the most impressive points difference – by a healthy margin. The Raptors have distinguished themselves in spite of early season personnel challenges, a testament to the squad’s deep, talented bench and exceptional coaching.

Moving into week four, the San Diego side has made some roster adjustments, apparently dissatisfied with their scrum performance against Seattle in the season opener. The Legion have brought in four-time High School All-American and USA Eagle Siaosi Mahoni to their second row, the 6’8,” 295-pounder adding some much needed muscle. San Diego has also contracted two new props, additions Raptors Head Coach Dave Williams understands may alter the course of the contest: “They’ve got some new players on the roster, and they’re certainly upping their stocks. San Diego didn’t seem particularly happy with their scrum in week one and they’ve worked to correct that,” he said. “Full credit to them. They identified an area of weakness and rectified it. That showed against Utah and it showed against Houston.” Not ignoring the personnel hurdles his team has successfully overcome thus far, Williams is optimistic about Sunday: “It should be a good contest this weekend and we’re looking forward to it.”

The Glendale side will enjoy a two-week break after the Sunday evening match, an extended bye that will allow the team plenty of time to prepare for their next away match. Taking on New Orleans Gold on June 3 at 3pm Mountain Time, the Raptors will face a team they bested handily in the pre season. Of particular importance for the NOLA match will be the likely return of both Connor Cook and Ben Landry, each of whom was suspended three games for a red card in week one. Though both will be eligible immediately following the San Diego match, Glendale won’t play again until the June 3 road game.

Throughout the inaugural MLR season, CBSSN will broadcast the game of the week, with non-game of the week matches broadcast by AT&T Sports Net or Cox Communications, and also available through ESPN+.
