Glendale Raptors against Olympic Club

Week 9 of the Pacific Rugby Premiership.

GLENDALE – Another week meant another win for the Glendale Raptors, who now boast a 7-0 record in league play. With the win, the Raptors remain atop the Pacific Rugby Premiership (PRP) standings following a 60-22 victory over Olympic Club.

“Once again, we’re happy with the result,” Raptors head coach Andre Snyman said of the win. “We got the bonus points and we’re happy with that.”

It was another scoring explosion for Glendale, but not before the opponents made a statement.

Olympic opened up the scoring with the game’s first try and moments were tense before the Raptors began to take control with a 15-10 lead in the first half.

“We knew they were going to come out strong for the first 20-25 minutes,” Snyman explained. “But we absorbed the pressure.”

Olympic stepped up their game in the time since the two sides’ previous meetup, a 71-17 victory in favor of the Raptors in the season opener, and while the score line was much closer this time around, there remained satisfaction nonetheless.

“I’m a little bit disappointed in our players not really sticking to our structure, but I’m not disappointed in the score line,” Snyman said.

Glendale built up a sizeable 27-10 lead by halftime, and cruised to the finish with the 60-22 victory. The prolific scoring was again led by Martin Knoetze, who continued the solid form he has shown throughout the 2016 campaign.

“He created a lot of space and put guys into position to score the tries,” Snyman said of Knoetze’s performance.
