…For warmer conditions in week 2 of PRP.

GLENDALE, CO – After a week of training in Colorado’s frigid conditions, the Glendale Raptors embark on a road trip to inviting San Diego to face Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC). And following last week’s 71-17 win over Olympic Club, the Raptors hope to continue form in what will be the second match of their Pacific Rugby Premiership (PRP) campaign.

“This weekend is going to be a lot different from last weekend,” Raptors head coach Andre Snyman warned. “[OMBAC] had a shot at the final last year. It was pretty much a four-way race.”

In fact, it was OMBAC which handed Glendale its first loss of the season in 2015 during an early season road trip. Led by a strong effort in the scrum, OMBAC created consistent pressure and won that contest, 24-13.

Snyman is expecting nothing less this time around in another trip to Southern California.

“They’re going to put us under pressure and they will test us,” Snyman said. “We can’t switch off for one second. Possession is going to be the key. They can score tries and have a really good pack of forwards.”

One of OMBAC’s primary weapons is USA Eagle Zach Pangelinan. Despite his 5-foot-9 stature, Pangelinan packs a sizeable punch while wearing the No. 10 shirt for OMBAC.

Another challenge will be the limited outdoor preparation Glendale has been faced with in the snowy conditions. But Snyman and his players made up the difference with extra work spent on discussing structures during whiteboard sessions.

Nevertheless, the Raptors will be eager to take the field on Saturday.

“I think they will love it,” Snyman said. “It’s been really difficult this week to prepare, so we’re looking forward to playing in warmer weather. It’s been difficult to put our plays together, because it’s different playing in snow than in the sun. But we’ve got a feeling that we’ll be sticking to our guns and playing our pattern.”

The match kicks off at 3:30pm PT at Little Q in San Diego.
